The earliest record we have for Frank on stage is aged 19, in a revue show with the Farnworth Catholic Youth Club (1945). He was a keen amateur actor and took part in many local productions before transitioning into professional Repertory Theatre (1951-53) and then winning the Sir James Knott Scholarship to train as an actor at RADA (1953).
Frank worked extensively in the theatre, few years went by when he wasn't on stage. His final performance in theatre was at the age of 82, as Firs in The Cherry Orchard at The Chichester Festival Theatre in 2008. That's 63 years treading the boards!
